GAA: All GAA fixtures hit by disease

This weekend's Allianz National Football and Hurling League fixtures have become the latest victim as the foot and mouth scare cripples the nation's sporting programme. The GAA have followed the precedent set by the FAI and the IRFU to postpone all league matches, while internal club fixtures may also come under threat if the epidemic gets a grip in the Republic.

Already, Kerry, Monaghan and Kildare County Boards have called off all activities in their respective counties, with more expected to follow suit. Elsewhere, the Sigerson Cup, which was due to take place under the supervision of Sligo IT for the first time, has also been postponed. There has been no new date fixed for the annual third level tournament, but the GAA are to meet with Sligo IT representatives to resolve the situation.

In a statement issued today, the GAA said that following a suspected outbreak of foot and mouth in South Armagh, the association had no option but to cancel all games in the national interest.
