Eoin McMahon and Chacon 2 finished eighth in the Longines FEI Show Jumping European Championships individual final in Riesenbeck in Germany.

It was a special moment for the 26-year-old, who is actually based in Riesenbeck with Germany superstar Ludger Beerbaum.

McMahon was contesting his first major championships, as was Daniel Coyle, who finished two places further back on Legacy.

Three Irish riders had qualified for the individual final, with Michael Duffy 16th place overall with Zilton SL Z.

McMahon, Coyle, Duffy and Mark McAuley were all part of Michael Blake’s Irish team that finish fifth overall in the European Championship team final on Friday.

Germany’s Andre Thieme claimed the individual gold medal on home soil with DSP Chakaria, Switzerland’s Martin Fuchs took the silver with Leone Jei, while the bronze medal went to Sweden’s Peder Fredricson and Catch Me Not S.
