Shane Breen partnered 11-year-old mare Evita to victory in the Sharjah Tourism 1m45 two-phase competition at Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday.

Breen finished almost a second and a half ahead of German runner-up David Will on Darius de Kezeg Z and Will's compatriot Holger Wulschner and Casirus in a competition which attracted 40 starters.

Sharjah will host a leg of the Longines FEI World Cup on Saturday, with Breen joined at the UAE venue by his younger brother Trevor and Kilkenny’s Jack Ryan.

Ryan maintained his excellent recent form with a third-place finish in the 1m50 speed class, guiding Essenar High Hopes to an excellent clear round.

Victory went to Egypt’s Abdel Said and Arpege Du Ru, while Christian Ahlmann of Germany filled the runner-up berth on Solid Gold Z.
