Ireland's showjumping team narrowly missed out on qualification for the 2020 Olympic Games after finishing seventh at the World Equestirian Games in North Carolina.
The top six teams secured their berths at the Japan Games, however, Rodrigo Pessoa's team of Shane Sweetnam, Shane Breen, Paul O'Shea and Cian O'Connor narrowly missed out.
The team will take heart from their overall performance in the knowlege that they have two more opportunities to qualify.
The 2019 European Championships offer Ireland a route to Japan, while next year's FEI Nations Cup final in Barcelona offer another chance to make the Olympics.
O'Connor still has a chance to secure a World Championships medal as the former Olympic medallist sits in sixth place with two rounds remaining on Sunday.
Ireland's @Cian_O_Connor is still in with a great chance of taking an individual World Championship medal - He lies in sixth place on a score of 6.69 with Good Luck and is less than one fence off silver medal position with two rounds of jumping to come on Sunday @RTEsport pic.twitter.com/uOVrEbx99Y
