Cameron Hanley came within half a second of taking home a €50,500 cheque at the five star show in Gijon, Spain when he finished as runner-up in the Grand Prix.
The Mayo-born rider, on board Antello Z, must make do with €30,600 for his second place finish.
The event was won by the Dutch combination of Henk Van de Pol and Willink.
Hanley, who also took part in Ireland’s acclaimed joint-second place finish in Saturday's Nations’ Cup, delivered a double clear round, a feat accomplished by just five of the 44-strong field.
Cork’s Billy Twomey and Sue Davies's 18 year-old mare Tinka’s Serenade made it into sixth place in the Grand Prix tonight, collecting four faults in the jump-off.
