Ireland’s Denis Lynch finished runner up in the five-star Championat of Leipzig today, picking up a €8,300 second-prize cheque in the process.
The Tipperary rider and his mount Abbervail van het Dingeshof led for most of the timed final round from a 52-strong field after a 37.95sec clear round, only to be pipped by local rider Christian Ahlmann on Aragon Z who took less than half a second off Lynch’s time to pick up the Volkswagen Passat first prize.
Only six combinations managed to complete the course without jumping faults.
Meanwhile, tomorrow’s World Cup class at Leipzig in Germany will have €160,000 on offer in prize money.
