Clonmel-born Sam Watson is the leading Irish rider after the conclusion of the dressage phase of World Championship Eventing in Kentucky, USA.
Watson has a personal best score of 46, putting him and the Irish-bred Horseware Bushman in 25th place of the 79 combinations through to the cross-country phase on Saturday.
Waterford's captain Geoff Curran was next best on The Jump Jet, scoring 50.2 in dressage, while Ireland's individual rider and the youngest competitor in the discipline, 21-year-old Camilla Speirs with Portersize Just a Jiff, had a score of 51.80.
Patricia Ryan and Fernhill Clover Mist yesterday scored 58.80 in dressage and Mark Kyle with Step In Time 65.50.
The five now face into the second, cross-country, phase of eventing in the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, where Irish riders usually excel, with the championships finishing on Sunday with show jumping.
Ginny Elliot, Horse Sport Ireland's High performance manager for Eventing, said on Friday: ‘I was pretty pleased with the way they went today.
'Sam Watson produced his best ever test and we are all thrilled for him.
‘Geoff Curran was very solid, but maybe a little disappointed he didn't break the psychological barrier between a score in the 50s and a score in the 40s, but he was in reality just one point off.'
Germany currently lead the team event, with Great Britain in second and Sweden third.
The showjumping World Championships begin at Kentucky on Monday.
