Twenty two-year-old Alexander Butler had a narrow victory in this
Sunday’s HSI Chippison Spring Tour Grand Prix at the
Barnadown Equestrian Centre in Gorey, Co Wexford, with Raymond Donohoe's Irish-bred Carton Free one of five Irish-breds to feature in the top six.
Meath-born Butler, who took a third place in March's Villeneuve-Loubet Grand Prix in France, was half a second ahead of challenger Gerard O'Neill and Vincent Digby's Irish-bred I Caesar in a 13 horse jump-off that yielded only three double clear rounds on Killian Clarke's course.
Tom McGurk's Irish-bred Macusla R improved one place from last
weekend to take third with rider Derek McConnell in the 58 strong
startlist.
