Denis Lynch took Ireland's first top five place at the four star competition in Bremen, Germany on Friday afternoon with the bay gelding Abbervail van het Dingeshof.

The 32-year-old Munster-based Tipperary rider was a little under two seconds off the pace of German winner Tony Hassmann with Queen Liesa in the Winning Round competition, but was one of just five riders to go clear in both rounds of the 1m45 class.

Lynch is joined at Bremen by another Tipperary rider, 23-year-old
Thomas Ryan, who now rides out of a Swiss stable.

The show's main Grand Prix takes place on Sunday morning.
