Ireland take second and third at Hickstead

Seventeen year-old Alex Duffy beat off the challenge of the more experienced Shane Breen for runner-up spot in Saturday’s Speed Derby at Hickstead, England.

Duffy, from Ballina in Mayo, was on board Breen's former ride ‘Iris
du Bateau’, and broke the beam just fractions of a second ahead of the 32 year-old Tipperary rider, who was piloting ‘Royal Concorde’.

The class, which was won by Britain's Ellen Whitaker, also saw
Tyrone's Peter Smyth take fifth place on ‘Zara's Pride’, while Ronan McLaughlin from Donegal was placed sixth with Illinoise de Cabdula’.

Shane Breen also captured an eighth place earlier at Hickstead in the Derby Trophy, riding ‘Dorada’.
