Cian O'Connor broke the Irish duck at Vigo, Spain, today when he won the 1m40 Accumulator class with the 12-year-old mare Zanoubia.
Though both O'Connor and Jessica Kurten have been racking up top ten placings at Vigo neither rider has scored an outright victory since Kurten's first place in the Swiss Masters on January 27.
Meath-based O'Connor streaked home in 46.15 seconds this afternoon, a second ahead of Swiss ace Markus Fuchs and Sylver II.
Vigo's World Cup class takes place later this evening at the Spanish venue, and both Kurten and O'Connor will compete for points. Kurten is currently ninth in the World Cup rankings.
O'Connor finished second in the afternoon speed class riding the grey gelding Casper.
The 26 year-old was pipped by Belgium's Ludo Philippaerts, who stopped the clock just four hundredths of a second ahead of O'Connor.
