Kurten out of luck in London

A mistake at the very last fence in the jump-off took Ireland's Jessica Kurten out of contention for the top spot in today's World Cup qualifier at the Olympia International Horse Show in London.

Kurten jumped a faultless first round on Quibell, but after a gallop down to the final fence in the deciding round Quibell took a pole off and the combination dropped to seventh overall.

Robert Smith completed a notable home treble to take the qualifier for the third time in nine years.

Smith, riding 13-year-old grey Kalusha, won by less than a second from Germany's Alois Pollmann-Schweckhorst on Candy and Marcus Ehning on Sandro Boy.
