Splaine set to be named Chef d'Equipe

Robert Splaine is to be offered the post of Chef d'Equipe for Ireland's senior show jumping team for the 2006 season.

The decision to offer the job to the Corkman came at a meeting of the Show Jumping Association of Ireland executive in county Kildare last night.

Splaine and former army rider John Ledingham had both been proposed for the post when a secret ballot of 18 of the country's top riders and the Showjumping Executive was held in Dublin a fortnight ago.

Splaine's appointment was unanimously agreed at the meeting, but is still subject to ratification by the Equestrian Federation of Ireland and the agreement of a contract.
