Irish Olympic show jumping hero Cian O'Connor will make his first major competition appearance since Athens at the Cavan Grand Prix on Sunday.

The Cavan Grand Prix is the first of the IJM Timber Frame Grand Prix Indoor League dates, which total eight in all, with the final being held at the Belfast International Horse Show in early December.

And O'Connor feels he will be returning to his roots in Cavan: "This is where I started, at national level, and it seemed fitting that I should return here after Athens. I will also be glad of the warm-up it will give me for the bigger international shows which I hope to attend during the winter," he said.

The Olympic gold medallist will have several horses with him at Cavan, but not the now-famous Waterford Crystal. "I have him out for the winter now to rest him for the 2005 season," says Meath-based O'Connor.

"I'm urgently trying to put together a sponsorship package so that I can buy a horse similar to Waterford Crystal, and represent my country throughout the big winter circuit abroad, at World Cup shows."
