Kurten returns to winning ways in Italy

Ireland's Jessica Kurten bounced back from a quiet few months on the international stage with a convincing victory at the four-star Italian venue of San Patrignano on Friday. On board nine-year-old mare Quibell, Kurten finished fractions of a second ahead of Dutch rider Peter Geerink to claim her share of the 6,000 euro purse.

Team-mate Robert Splaine steered his seemingly unshakeable Coolcorron Cool Diamond into third.

International selectors will be closely watching both riders with next week's Hickstead looming, and the subsequent choice as to who represents Ireland at the Super League fixture in Dublin in August to be made.
