The Irish Eventing team at the World Equestrian Games slipped from sixth to eighth place overall on Saturday as two of its four members were eliminated following falls on the strong cross-country stage. Neither of the riders or their horses was seriously hurt, but under FEI rules, neither competitor can now compete in today's showjumping stage.
Sasha Harrison (All Love du Fenaud) and Eric Smiley (Macloud) were the fallers and are now eliminated from the world championships at Jerez.
The USA team currently leads the three-day event, with Australia second and France third while American John Williams is the leading individual. Best placed of the remaining Irish riders is Jane O'Flynn on 'Kilnadeema Star' in 19th place.
