Irish riders have won four Grands Prix in a remarkable weekend for equestrianism in Ireland. Captain Gerry Flynn and Robert Power both won at Bourg en Bress in France this evening to add to Dermott Lennon's win earlier today in Modena, Italy. Lennon was riding the Irish-bred Liscalgot, and came home with a double clear, beating hotly-tipped German Markus Merschformann by less than a second. The County Down man claimed prize money of £55,000 (35m lira). The Army Equitation School's Lieutenant David O'Brien who came top in the Lisbon Grand Prix on Friday.
Meanwhile, the Irish team has finished fourth in the Lisbon stage of the Samsung Nations Cup with a total of 24 penalties. Italy were the best team with four penalties, finishing ahead of Great Britain and Switzerland.
