Ireland's Jessica Kurten, riding Paavo N finished tied for 12th place in the third and final stage of the FEI World Cup Showjumping Final at the Gothenburg Horse Show yesterday, giving her a total of 28 penalties, and a 16th place finish overall, after all three stages had been completed. Earlier in the day, Jessica made the individual prize money bracket in a speed class on board Bonita 38. In the Class 17 event, she took sixth place and prize money worth just under IR£1000.
Meanwhile, the World Cup was won yesterday by Switzerland's Markus Fuchs, riding Tinka's Boy with just five penalty points. He knocked the reigning world champion Rodrigo Pessoa of Brazil into second in a jump-off in the third stage. Third overall was Great Britain's Michael Whitaker, riding Handel ll, who finished with a total of eight penalties.
Fuchs and Pessoa both finished day three of the event on a total of five penalties, and in the jump-off Fuchs had no penalties and a time of 35.25, while Pessoa had eight penalties and a time of 33.90. Pessoa had been world champion in 1998, 1999, and 2000 while Fuchs had never taken the World Cup before.
