Luke Woodhouse recovered from 3-0 down in the final of Players Championship 18 to beat Andrew Gilding 8-4 and claim his first PDC ranking title.
The 37-year-old finished with a 102+ average and admitted it was something of a relief to make his breakthrough in Leicester.
"All of a sudden I was 3-0 down but I didn't want to collapse so I thought 'Stick in there, try to do the best you can’, and I’ve obviously shown what I can do," said Woodhouse, who beat Limerick's Willie O'Connor in the last 32.
"I wouldn’t call it frustrating (not having won a title), in my eyes it was just a case of when not if.
"To get that sort of tag off my back is nice but I want to go and do well in every tournament – it’s not like I’ve won this and I can relax now. I want to do more."
