Keane Barry picked up a notable scalp at the Players Championship 12 in Milton Keynes as he defeated world number two Luke Humphries on a day where Wessel Nijman triumphed.
Barry won 6-5 against the Englishman in his first match, but fell to Alexander Merkx of the Netherlands by the same score in the next round.
Beau Greaves was unable to build on her historic start to the week after being well beaten in the last 16
Greaves on Monday became the first woman to win a PDC ranking title after toppling three former champions, but 24 hours later the 22-year-old was crushed 6-0 by Tom Bissell having dispatched Tommy Morris and Damon Heta in the first two rounds.
Instead, Nijman took the honours in Tuesday's action following an 8-5 victory over his Dutch compatriot Jermaine Wattimena in the final.
It was Nijman’s fourth Players Championship title in this year’s 12 events to continue his stellar 2026.
"It was a nervy final and I had to come from behind. I made it difficult for myself but I’m so happy I kept it together," Nijman said.
