Luke Littler kept himself on course for a defence of his Grand Slam of Darts title and the world number one spot with a 10-4 win over Wessel Nijman.

The world champion continued where he had left off from the group stage with another impressive and composed display.

Littler initially opened up a 5-0 lead before closing out victory with a match average of 105 and hitting more than 80% on his checkouts.

Dutchman Nijman had won six of their previous nine meetings in all tournaments, but came up short despite putting on a fightback following the mid-match interval.

Littler, who will next play Josh Rock on Saturday, feels his game is in a good place as he targets yet another major televised trophy.

"I just want to win as quick as possible," Littler said on Sky Sports. "But I know Wessel. We have had our battles on the Pro Tour, so to get the win over him tonight feels extra special and we go on to the last eight.

"If they are playing their best darts, they might catch me, but tonight felt very good and so we continue."

Littler added: "I have my eyes on everything, the title, world number one - but we've just got to take it game by game."

Rock had earlier held off a comeback from Connor Scutt to win a last-leg decider.

The Northern Ireland World Cup of Darts winner had raced into a 3-0 lead but then saw his momentum drop before eventually getting over the line.

In Thursday night's opening match, world number 71 Lukas Wenig secured a spot in his first major quarter-final with a 10-8 win over fellow German Niko Springer, taking out 52% on his doubles.
