World champion Peter Wright rallied to see off Fallon Sherrock and book his place in the second round of the World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam.

Sherrock, who did not miss a dart at a double in the match, nudged 3-2 in front after completing a 73 finish with a bullseye.

But Wright's superior averages saw him wrest back control and although Sherrock briefly levelled at 4-4 with a 120 check-out, the 52-year-old did enough to edge a 6-4 victory.

Home favourite Vincent van der Voort bowed out in a 6-3 defeat to Matt Campbell, who will play second seed Gerwyn Price in the next round.

But there was better news for the home fans as another Dutchman, Danny Noppert, wrapped up a 6-4 win over Simon Whitlock, setting up a clash with defending champion Jonny Clayton.

There were also wins for Dave Chisnall, Ryan Joyce, Damon Heta, Leonard Gates and Dirk van Duijvenbode on Friday.

The eight seeded players, based on the World Series Order of Merit rankings, are set to enter the tournament on Saturday.
