Jeff Smith booked his place in the quarter-finals of the BDO World Championship on Thursday after defeating ninth seed Gary Robson.
Smith, who entered the competition as a qualifier, claimed a 4-3 victory despite a strong comeback by Northumberland's Robson.
Canadian Smith led 3-1 before Robson rallied to level the match at 3-3, however the 39-year-old won the deciding set.
"I came out like a house on fire but you've got to give Gary credit where it's due. He came back so hard and it basically turned my legs to jelly," Smith told the BBC.
"I had a couple of opportunities to put the match away, but he played so well and I couldn't shake him off."
Scotland's Ross Montgomery booked his place with a 4-0 whitewash of England's Scott Waites while Glen Durrant also progressed from the second round with a 4-1 win over Jamie Hughes.
Three-time champion Anastasia Dobromyslova progressed to the semi-finals in the women's event after defeating Zoe Jones 2-0 while Fallon Sherrock also moved through to the last four following a sudden-death victory over Aileen de Graaf.
