England's Stuart Kellett demonstrated why he is seeded second for the BDO World Championship with a ruthless demolition of Darryl Fitton in the first round today.

Kellett won the first eight legs of the match and was only denied a complete whitewash when Fitton finally got on the scoreboard in the ninth.

That brought a wry smile from Fitton but Kellett had the last laugh as he completed a 3-0 win in the next leg with an 81 checkout secured on the bull.

Fourth seed Steve West was not so fortunate earlier in the afternoon as he became the biggest casualty of the day at Frimley Green.

West had three shots at double 20 to see off last year's runner-up Dave Chisnall, but missed them all and Chisnall took advantage to claim a 3-2 win.

‘I had put my darts in my pocket because I expected him to hit that,’ Chisnall, who lost to Martin Adams in the 2010 final, told BBC Sport. ‘I feel sorry for Steve, he played well.’

Elsewhere, 21-year-old Ross Smith pulled off a surprise 3-1 victory over eighth seed Tony O'Shea.

Dutchman Joey ten Berge beat Shaun Griffiths 3-0, compatriot Jan Dekker dismissed Scott Mitchell by the same score and Garry Thompson saw off Germany's Arno Merk 3-1.
