Phil Taylor whitewashed Colin Osborne with a sensational performance to storm into the last eight of the Sky Poker World Grand Prix.

Taylor followed up his first round win over Ronnie Baxter with a devastating display against Osborne, averaging 100.2 to set up a quarter-final meeting with Andy Hamilton.

‘Colin's a better player than that and I felt for him, but you have to be professional and get the job done,’ said Taylor.

‘You want to get the job done as quickly as possible and though it's not nice to beat a fellow pro 3-0, 3-0, 3-0 but I'm pleased to win.’

Hamilton had to come from behind to beat Robert Thornton 3-2 after losing the first two sets.

John Part defeated Jacko Barry with ease, with the Dubliner going down 3-0 in front of his home fans, while Terry Jenkins defeated Mark Walsh by the same score.

Irish player Jacko Barry had no answer to current World Champion John Part as the Dubliner went down in straight sets to the Canadian.

After his first round victory over Belfast’s Brendan Dolan two nights earlier, Barry brought with him a huge following for his match against the world number four.

Part took the opening set in decisive fashion but it was in the second set where Barry played his best darts and after breaking the throw in the opening leg, he then built up a 2-0 lead in legs before giving himself two darts to take the set but missed on double 20 and then on double ten.

Barry then also rued a chance to win the second set in the fifth leg but again failed with an attempt at double 20 and Part immediately took advantage to land the second set.

Part sealed the match with a 3-0 win in legs in the final set of the game.

‘I don’t think I deserved to lose 3-0 and while John is the world champion and I did give him the respect he deserves.

‘I settled much better tonight than the previous night and it was just the finishing on my doubles which let me down. I just couldn’t believe the amount of doubles I missed. Had I hit them, it would have been a different story.’ said Barry after his second round exit.

‘I thought I’d win the first set but I didn’t but after losing that, I came out full of confidence in the second set and I got off to a flier. The doubles just let me down though and it’s becoming a bit of a habit with me now.

‘I can say that I pushed the world champion in most of the legs tonight and in those legs, I had a chance at a double to win the leg.’

‘It’s all experience. I’m only at this a year and you can’t expect miracles in the first year. The more experience I get, the better I’m going to get. I can’t complain after getting this far and there are 16 other lads who would have given their right arm to be in the position that I was in tonight. I’m absolutely delighted to have got to the second round of probably the second biggest tournament in the world.’

He added: ‘The plan now is to qualify for the World Championships at the end of the year if I can and tonight being up there on stage will be a real help going into that. Hopefully this time next year, I’ll be up on that stage being the winner.’
