Davide Ballerini claimed victory in Stage Six of the Giro d'Italia.
Thursday’s leg of the race took place between Paestum and Naples, spanning 142 kilometres, and a frenetic finish saw some riders caught up in a crash that happened on the final bend leading into the home straight, allowing Ballerini to take advantage.
The Italian rider clinched a second stage win for XDS Astana Team after successfully holding off Jasper Stuyven and the Belgian’s Soudal Quick-Step team-mate Paul Magnier finished in third.
Afonso Eulalio keeps the Maglia Rosa going into Friday’s stage, which takes place from Formia to Blockhaus.
Ireland's Darren Rafferty (EF Education - EasyPost) is 63rd overall in the general classification and 17th in the sprint stakes, with Ryan Mullen (NSN Cycling Team) 21st in the mountain classification.
