Ireland's Lara Gillespie has won gold in the elimination race at the Track World Championships in Chile.
The 24-year-old from Carlow, who was crowned European champion in the event in Belgium in February, saw off Katie Archibald of Great Britain in second, with Belgium's Helene Hesters third in Santiago.
The race itself took 13 minutes and 58 seconds, not that time counts for much in the event.
A field of 24 took to the track for the mass start, with the cyclist occupying last place every two laps exiting the competition.
The elimination race has a reputation as a rough contest, with two early crashes bearing that out.
With just Archibald and Gillespie remaining in contention, the Irish competitor opted to ride widest on the banked track, stalking her rival until the wild sprint for the line began.
Gillespie moved upsides her rival as the pair rounded the final bend and quickened away from Archibald brilliantly in the closing stages.
