Irish riders will be in UCI World Championship action this week as Cycling Ireland send a strong team of six women to the Track World Championships in Chile.

Lara Gillespie will be seeking to add a World Championship medal to the European gold she won in Belgium earlier this year and will compete in three events over the four-day championship.

The 23-year-old, who made her Tour de France Femmes debut this summer, will compete in the elimination, omnium and points race events.

Emma Jeffers, who continues her transition from BMX and road racing to the track after declaring for Ireland last year, will have high hopes of making a big impact on the global in Irish colours.

The 20-year-old competes in the scratch and madison events and has raised expectations with some strong performance both on the road and track this year.

Also going in the madison is 2024 Olympian Erin Creighton, who like Jeffers, has impressed on the track and road this year and she will also be part of the Ireland team pursuit squad. The pursuit team get their championship underway with a qualifier on Wednesday afternoon.

Fiona Mangan and sisters Aoife and Caoimhe O'Brien will also be part of the pursuit team.

Aoife, who has seen much of her season dented by injuries sustained over the summer, will hope to continue her recovery and along with the team pursuit, she also competes in the kilo time trial event.

Mangan who like Gillespie, made her Tour de France Femmes debut this summer, is making her World Championship debut this week and is focused on the pursuit, competing in the individual event along with the team.
