Ryan Mullen finished 18th in the time trial today at the UEC European Road Championships in Trento on Thursday.
Compatriot Conn McDunphy crossed the line in 29th place as headwinds impaced the riders.
McDunphy was first to race for Ireland, clocking 27 minutes 11.55 seconds, while Mullen posted a time of 26:39.36.
The European title was won by Stefan Kung of Switzerland, who completed the 22.4km course in 24:29.85, with Filippo Ganna of Italy and Belgium's Remco Evenepoel filling the minor places on the podium.
Mullen and McDunphy will be joined on the Irish team by Sam Bennett for the 179.2km road race on Sunday.
Kevin McCambridge and Aaron Wade were also in action in the Under-23 category, finishing in 26th and 38th respectively.
