Sam Bennett capped a perfectly executed team performance with victory on the first stage of the Volta ao Algarve in Portugal on Wednesday.
The Deceuninck-Quick-Step rider made his move on the flat 189.5km run from Lagos to Portimao with half a kilometre remaining, surging into position alongside team-mates Davide Ballerini and Michael Morkov.
Bennett closed it out with authority, getting home just ahead of Danny van Poppel (Intermarche-Wanty-Gobert Materiaux) and Jon Aberasturi (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA).
