Geraint Thomas moved up to second at the Tour de Romandie as Marc Soler vaulted into the overall lead with a breakaway victory on stage three.

As the rain fell on the 169km stage that started and finished in Estavayer, it was all change at the top of the general classification as Soler went solo with around 10 kilometres to go.

The Movistar rider won the stage by 22 seconds from a group including Thomas, and took the yellow jersey from the Welshman's Ineos Grenadiers team-mate Rohan Dennis, who finished as part of a group 81 seconds down after suffering a late crash.

Soler now leads by 14 seconds from the Ineos duo of Thomas and Richie Porte, who are on the same time going into Saturday’s mountainous stage four from Sion to Thyon.

Ireland's Eddie Dunbar slipped further down the overall classification and now sits in 70th place after coming home 84th today.
