Sam Bennett was denied a sixth win of the season as Jasper Philipsen edged out the Irish cyclist in a sprint finish to win Scheldeprijs 2021.
Deceuninck-Quick-Step appeared well set for victory in the one-day Belgian classic, with Bennett and fellow sprint specialist Mark Cavendish well placed nearing the closing stages after a brutal day of racing.
Cross-winds played havoc with the peloton and the race was decided with a sprint finish from a 30-rider group.
Bennett found himself boxed in the final few hundred metres and the Alpecin-Fenix rider sprinted for home, with Cavendish third.
What a finish from Jasper Philipsen!
