Irish teenager mountain biker Oisin O'Callaghan admits that it’s going to take time to come to terms with the fact that he is now a world champion.

The Limerick youngster took gold at the Junior World Mountain Bike Championships in Austria on Sunday in what was his first ever race at that level.

O’Callaghan is Ireland’s first ever Downhill world champion and speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland he revealed that his achievement is still sinking in.

"It’s going to have to take a lot more time to sink in properly," he said.

"When I was in the hotseat at the bottom and riders were coming down 10 seconds slower I was like; 'I wonder what I’ve done’. This is my first race at this level because I was too young before now.

"I had everyone in my team beside be and the manager just said you’re guaranteed a medal but we don’t know what colour yet.

"There were only three more riders left and every one of them came slower," he added.
