Dan Martin is hopeful of riding in the Tour de France, despite having a fracture of his lower back confirmed.
The incident occurred on Thursday when the Irishman fell during the Criterium du Dauphine, with around 25km to go in the stage to Col de Porte.
Later tests confirmed that it was a sacral fracture.
"Hopefully it heals in time for the Tour," Martin said in a video released by his team on Twitter.
"It was probably the best I've felt since we started racing again after lockdown."
Of the crash, he added: "There was nothing I could do. I was preparing myself for the last climb, the last effort, but the guys crashed in front of me.
"I tried to stop in time. Immediately I knew I'd hurt myself. I rode to the finish and could pedal no problem. It was painful and I could just tell that something was not quite right, so we got it checked."
