Three more riders have been withdrawn from the Vuelta a Burgos in Spain after coming into contact with a person who later tested positive for coronavirus.

UAE Team Emirates announced that their Colombian trio of Sebastian Molano, Cristian Munoz and Camilo Ardila will not start Wednesday's second stage from Castrojeriz to Villadiego after being in contact with someone outside the race on Saturday who subsequently tested positive.

All three riders had returned two negative tests in the days prior to the race, which started on Tuesday.

In line with team and UCI protocols, the riders have been sent home to isolate and will undergo a further test on Wednesday.

Despite losing three team-mates, Fernando Gaviria won the stage for UAE Team Emirates. Gaviria, 25, himself contracted the virus at the UAE Tour in late February and spent time in hospital in March.

On Tuesday, Israel Start-Up Nation withdrew British time trial champion Alex Dowsett and his team-mate Itamor Einhorn from the race after their team-mate Omer Goldstein - who is not racing in Spain but had been in contact with Einhorn - returned a positive test.

Dowsett and Einhorn later returned negative tests but only after the race had begun.

The Vuelta a Burgos is the first major stage race to take place since March due to the suspension of the season and has attracted a strong field, which includes Irish pair Sam Bennett and Eddie Dunbar. Bennett was second in today's second stage.

Strade Bianche, the first WorldTour event since the season resumed, is due to take place on Saturday in Tuscany.
