Sam Bennett further extended his general classification lead at the Tour of Turkey after battling to a third-placed finish in Friday's fourth stage.

The Tipp rider won the first two stages and took second yesterday to leave himself in good shape heading into today's 194km trek into Bursa.

He was edged out in an uphill sprint finish by Australian Caleb Ewan and Spaniard Juan Jose Lobato but retains the leader’s blue jersey ahead of tomorrow's 15km mountain climb to Kartepe.

Bennett is 24 seconds clear of his Bora Hansgrohe team-mate Felix Grosschartner with Jhonatan Restrepo (Manzana) another two seconds back.

The 28-year-old Irishman will likely conserve his energy tomorrow before attacking the climactic stage into Istanbul, a flat finale more suited to his strengths.
