Thiery takes yellow jersey after Rás first stage

Cyrille Thiery of the Swiss National Team has won the opening stage of the Rás Tailteann, a 136km trip from Drogheda to Athlone.

In second place was Luuc Bugter of Nederlands Delta Cycling with Robbie Ghys of the Belgian national team third.

Bugter and Ghys also claimed the points and U23 jerseys respectively.

Matteo Cigala of the Westmeath Viner-Caremark Pactimo team  will wear the leading county rider's jersey on tomorrow's second leg from Athlone to Tipperary.

King of the mountains jersey wearer is Damien Shaw of Holdsworth Pro Cycling.
