Team Sky's Richie Porte clinched the Volta a Catalunya title on Sunday to add to his success at Paris-Nice earlier this year.

The Australian entered the final day with a five-second lead and, despite seeing former champion Alejandro Valverde claim the seventh stage in Barcelona, he had enough of a buffer to hold on to top spot in the overall classification.

Valverde crossed the line first following a bunch sprint to earn his third stage victory of the week and move up to second in the overall standings, but Porte came home safely in the peloton to claim the title.

Ireland's Dan Martin finished tenth in the overall standings, with his cousin and compatriot Nicolas Roche further down the field in 38th.
