Ireland’s Martyn Irvine is lying in 16th place after three parts of the Men’s Omnium at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Paris.

Irvine rode a personal best in the Individual Pursuit of 4mins 26.814secs, after a 20th position finish in the scratch race earlier in the day.

His individual pursuit time was the 9th fastest on the day.

But he placed 15th in the elimination race in the third part of the Omnium, and sat 16th overall.

Irvine is appealing the result, though, as he claims he was head-butted during the third event.

The Omnium is a six event competition, with riders being awarded points depending on their finishing position in each event.
