Irish cyclist Dan Martin (Garmin-Sharp) won the fourth stage of the Tour of Beijing this morning.
The Birmingham-born Irishman surged clear in the final kilometre of the 157km route from Yanqing to the summit finish at Mentougou Miaofeng to triumph by two seconds from a three-rider group which included Belgian Philippe Gilbert (BMC Racing).
The Garmin-Sharp rider’s win elevates him to second place in the overall standings.
Gilbert hangs on to the overall race lead going into the final day tomorrow, with a three-second lead on Martin.
The stage win for Martin comes hot on the heels of his overall victory in the Tour of Lombardy last week.
