Ryan Mullen has won silver in the men’s U23 time trial at the UCI Road World Championships in Ponferrada, Spain, today.
Mullen was clear in the standings with Portugal's Rafael Ferreira Reis almost 19 seconds behind with just three competitors remaining.
But Australia's Campbell Flakemore just topped Mullen's time by 0.48 seconds to ensure the Irish rider had to settle for silver.
Switzerland's Stefan Kueng then secured third place as the final rider, leaving Reis outside of the medals.
Twenty-year-old Mullen won the Irish Elite Road Race Championship and under-23 time trial this year.
Josie Knight finished 37th in the women's event. Nicolas Roche competes in the elite time trial on Wednesday.
