Ireland’s road race team for the Olympics has been announced as Dan Martin, Nicolas Roche and David McCann.
Martin will take part in his first Olympics, Roche will take part for the second time and McCann will become a three-time Olympian.
McCann is also expected to be Ireland’s representative in the time-trial.
The main rider to have missed out on selection is Sam Bennett, who had been tipped for a spot in the three-man team.
The team was selected by An Post Ras organiser Dermot Dignam, UCI international commissaire Paul Watson and lecturer in Sport & Exercise Physiology at DCU, Dr Giles Warrington.
Geoff Liffey, CEO of Cycling Ireland, acted as chairperson of the selection panel.
