Edvald Boasson Hagen won stage three of the Criterium du Dauphine in France, while Team Sky team-mate Bradley Wiggins retains the overall lead.

The 25-year-old Norwegian led a sprint finish to edge out Germany's Gerald Ciolek and Borut Biozic of Slovenia, who finished second and third in the 167-kilometre race from Givors to La Clayette.

Wiggins held on to the yellow jersey for the third day in succession after finishing in the 140-rider chasing pack, with Australia's Cadel Evans and Ukrainian Andriy Grivko one and two seconds further back respectively.

Hagen, who crossed the line in a time of four hours, 22 minutes and 13 seconds today, told letour.fr: "The last time I won at the Dauphine [the last stage in 2010 in Sallanches], it was raining on a hilly course and I won alone.

"It was very different but it's always nice to win. I came to the Dauphine for working for Bradley [Wiggins] but today other teams did the work at the head of the peloton.

"It was a good day for us with nothing to do until the very end of the stage when Team Sky kept Bradley up the front and I could sit behind.

"I wouldn't say it was an easy win but I was good enough for winning.

"Possibly, other teams didn't expect me to sprint after all the work I did yesterday but they can't really have forgotten me."
