Andrey Amador (Movistar) of Costa Rica held off fellow breakaways Czech Jan Barta and Alessandro De Marchi of Italy to win Stage 14 of the Giro d'Italia.
Canada's Ryder Hesjedal regained the overall lead from Spain's Joaquim Rodriguez after a late attack. Amador was part of a seven-man breakaway that formed early on the 206 kilometre mountain stage concluding on the summit finish of Cervinia.
Hesjedal (Garmin-Barracuda) attacked a group of favourites close to the finish of the final 27 kilometre climb to led the way again.
Spaniard Rodriguez (Katusha) finished seventh, 46 seconds behind Amador. Hesjedal (Garmin-Barracuda) now holds a nine-second advantage over the former with Paolo Tiralongo (Astana) in third spot, 41 seconds off the leader.
