Martin claims fifth place in Denmark

Irish road race champion Daniel Martin showed his strong climbing ability once again when he finished an excellent fifth on Friday's third stage of the Tour of Denmark.

Overnight race leader Matti Breschel (Team CSC/Saxo Bank) was first to the line in Vejle, ending the 200 km stage two seconds ahead of Jakob Fuglsang (Team Designa Køkken) and Tom Stamsnijder (Gerolsteiner).

Martin was ten seconds back, finishing with the fourth and sixth-placed riders. A large group containing some of the pre-race favourites was a further 22 seconds behind.

Breschel now has a 19-second lead over Fuglsang and 21 over Stamsnijder. Martin is 55th overall, three minutes and 37 seconds back.

The 2.HC ranked race continues today with two stages, a 115 km morning stage to Odense and then a 14.5 km time trial in Kerteminde. It ends tomorrow.
