Belgian cyclist Tom Bonnen has been barred from competing in the Tour of Switzerland by organisers after confirmation that the former world champion had tested positive for cocaine.
Belgian judicial authorities confirmed that the Paris-Roubaix winner had tested positive during an out-of-competition control carried out by the ministry of the Flemish Community, on 26 May.
‘Race director Armin Meier has refused Boonen,’ Tour of Switzerland spokesman Kurt Henauer said.
He added that the rest of the Quick Step team would be starting the race as planned at Langnau on Saturday.
