Stephen Roche believes the next generation of cyclists will return the sport to its former glory.

The former Tour de France winner is hopeful that the sport will be free from drugs once the current crop of older riders quit the sport.

‘It's a matter of the generation that is going off at the moment - the 32- and 33-year-old guys - getting out of the peloton as fast as they can,’ said Roche.

‘We hope that the peloton will be clean after that.’

Roche sees the riders' willingness to sign an anti-doping pledge before the start of this year's Tour as a step in the right direction.
