AG2R Prévoyance professional Mark Scanlon showed a welcome return to form when he placed eighth in the bunch sprint which decided yesterday's third stage of the Circuit de la Sarthe in France.

The Sligoman crossed the line in Ernee close behind the day’s victor Alberto Loddo, plus runners-up Stefan Schumacher and Anthony Ravard.

Thanks to the bonus seconds awarded for his stage placing, former Rás competitor Schumacher moved to the top of the overall standings. He is 3 seconds clear of CSC pair Brian Vandborg and Ivan Basso.
