Mark Scanlon finished in the main bunch on today's third stage of the Tour de L'Avenir and is third overall.
The Ag2R Prévoyance professional is just ten seconds behind overall leader Borut Bozic (Perutnina Ptuj), and has a chance of taking yellow in tomorrow's time trial.
Philip Deignan was part of the main bunch that lost a lot of time yesterday and is now 93rd overall, 23 minutes and 35 seconds down.
Meanwhile today's final stage of the Tour of Britain saw good rides by the Irish riders in the race, with Ciarán Power finishing fourth and Paul Healion taking eighth.
Eugene Moriarty (Team Ireland) was just outside the top ten in 13th. Healion, David McCann and Paul Griffin went on the attack during the 45 lap street circuit in Westminister, further enlivening what was a very fast race.
Today's concluding sixth stage was won by Luca Paolini in a bunch sprint, with his QuickStep team-mate Nick Nuyens finishing safely in the main bunch in ninth, thus holding on to his yellow jersey. The Belgian led the race from start to finish.
Power was best placed of the Irish overall in 25th, 5 minutes and 20 seconds behind Nuyens. David McCann, who finished a fine 15th in the time trial on Saturday, was next in 46th place.
