Italian cyclist Dario Frigo has been detained by French police after performance-enhancing drugs were found in a car driven by his wife at the Tour de France.
The 31-year-old, winner of the 2001 Paris-Nice, was taken in for questioning this morning.
Frigo would have started today's stage from Courchevel to Briancon in 77th place.
There was a similar case in 2002 when the wife of Lithuanian rider Raimondas Rumsas was arrested by French customs officers with drugs in her car on the day her husband finished third in the Tour.
Rumsas and his wife will go on trial in November in France.
"This is not the same as the Rumsas case," a source close to the Frigo investigation said.
"We haven't found as much drugs."
